Urban manufacturing in Baltimore has seen greater days.
We served as the steel backbone for the nation and the world at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point.
General Motors produced cars along Berning Highway. Household brands like Tide, Cheer, and Ivory Soap were proudly manufactured here. We had mills along the Jones Falls, led the nation in textiles, and pioneered many innovative firsts.
Yet, we witnessed those companies and jobs move elsewhere, impacting our city with rising crime rates and missed opportunities.
